Massive sewage plant proposal for Portrane
Voters,

Please make the monster sewage plant proposed for Portrane the number one election issue.

Politicians are already calling to doors on the peninsula - give them hell on the proposal to turn the area into the biggest toilet in the country.

Fingal County Council, together with six other councils on the east coast, have just appointed consultants to carry out an environmental assessment of the sewage plant proposal.

Demand that your would-be TD stops this poxy plant. Otherwise, the smell will be unbearable.

Bizarrely, the environmental assessment will not look at the selection of Portrane as the site for this odious plant.

Smell a ready-up in the making anyone?

"Fingal County Council, together with six other councils on the east coast, have just appointed consultants to carry out an environmental assessment of the sewage plant proposal."

- thats reasonable, isn't that what the community demanded?

"Bizarrely, the environmental assessment will not look at the selection of Portrane as the site for this odious plant."

- not so bizarre, as I would assume that it is an environmental assessment of the potential affect on the Portrane area?

Hi Sukiyaki,
No, the community did not want the SEA (Strategic Environmental Assessment) - it was forced on us. Fairshare and the rest of the community wanted the proposed plant plan scrapped, but all we could get the councillors to do in the end was postpone a vote on funding for the plant, and do an SEA in the meantime.

Also, an SEA which does not look at site selection (as is proposed with this one) is not worth a damn.

People need to get up to speed on this one, and quickly.

Central Government is railroading this monstrous plant into Donabate with the support of the Fingal council.

We have to make our politicians accountable. They must protect us and commit against the plant or tell them they will not get your vote.

It was reported in the Fingal Independent 13th December 2006) that the Director of Water Services in Fingal Co Co, PJ Howell, said that the process to find a site for the plant will be "a very open and transparent process, throughout".

Everyone knows that this is the exact opposite of what has happened to date.

Tell the politicians they must declare against the massive sewage treatment plant or the stink will spread. They will receive no votes from Donabate, Portrane, Malahide, Rush, Lusk, Swords or Howth.

Fingal County Council is pressing ahead with plans for a massive sewage plant, capable of treating the wastewater for Dublin, Meath, Kildare etc, to be located in Portrane.

People in the area seem to think this monster sewage plant plan has gone away; it has not. We only succeeded in stalling it.

A Strategic Environmental Assessment is currently being carried out into the plans for the Portrane plant and other aspects of sewage and wastewater treatment on the East Coast.

Please spread the word that the odious sewage plant proposals have not gone away.
