1950's in Portrane
Very fond memories of the movie house above the shop in Portrane during the summer. Also when the circus used to come. Going for the fresh milk. And freedom among the beach.
Supose that has all changed now

Leonards of County Dublin
Hi there, I'm a Leonard researching my extended Leonard family. I'm from USA, but my ancestors came from Portrane/Donabate, and I believe they lived in The Burrow, and still do.

My ancestor was Mathew John Leonard (1854-1939), who was born in Portrane, and died in Portland Maine.

He was one of ten children born to Mathew Leonard & Anna O'Brien-Leonard. Mathew Sr's parents were Patrick Leonard & Elizabeth Hoarish, I believe.

My ancestor Mathew John's siblings were: Patrick (died young), John, Patrick (aka Patsy) who married a Mary Liversage, Elizabeth Leonard-Devine, Annie Leonard-Quinlan-Batchelder, Francis, Alice Leonard, and Ellen Leonard-Smart, and Mary Leonard.

As of 1948, only Francis Leonard & Patrick Leonard were still alive, and were living somewhere in County Dublin.

An Alice Leonard-McLoughlin from Donabate was a member of this family, and I believe she was Patsy's daughter. She visited Portland Maine and New York City to see family in the 1960's. And Frank Devine & Mathew John Leonard Jr, born in Portland Maine, made frequent visits to Portrane/Donabate during WWI and WWII to see family, and would send money home to surviving cousins.

If any of this rings a bell for anyone, I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks,

Scott Leonard
