| Donabate Dentist too pricey |
|
I too am an extremely nervous dental patient and confess to not looking after my teeth as I should have. On a recent trip to Budapest I had a dental consultation there and for very little could have had miracles done. I decided that before actually committing to getting the work done in Budapest I could have a consultation done here. I travelled to Newry and was told that I do not need all the work done that was proposed in Budapest (it was mostly cosmetic) and my visit to Newry instead of costing me ?3,000 cost me ?250.00. Having said that on a return trip to Newry I needed to have an extraction and that with cleaning cost me οΎ£70! Not an amount i was anticipating, especially when a friend had an xray and extraction recently in Malahide for much much less.
Happy dental hunting! |

| I too went to Newry for an examination and consulation only last week. I found the dentist to be extremely helpful and nice. He put as much work into relaxing his patient as he did into the examination and xrays. The charge for the examination and 4 xrays was 45 pound sterling which worked out at 65 euro - I was really happy with that and will be returning for any other work that needs to be done as the prices quoted for crowns etc are way below what Dublin dentists charge |

The extra money raised from overcharging seems to have been used to pay for a shiney new website which launches tomorrow www.hughesdental.net.
Hope they have a contact us link so I can let them know about this Forum.....If a new member starts claimimg its the best Dentist in the country and very reasonably priced, that will probably be the dentist himself!!! |

| As per my previous posting, i have since been to another dentist in balbriggan(who i have to say is a genuinely nice guy, who was so conciencious of the fact i was a nervous patient and explained everything as he was going along.)Not only did he tell me my wisdom tooth did not need to be removed as (1) it was not giving me trouble and (2)there is a 1/100 chance that the side of my face and my tongue could go permanently numb- a fact i was not informed of in donabate. He also took xrays and cleaned my teeth( something the donabate dentist didn't even bother doing) but he didn't charge me a cent. This guy is genuinely concerned about his patients and knows what the phrase "customer service" means. If anyone fancies visiting him his number is Dr John heeney 018417344 |

| Donabate Dentist too pricey |

| Having recently fallen into the trap of assuming that something as essential as tooth extractions etc would not be standardised across all dentists, I was expected to pay 305 euro for two extractions and a clean from the dentist in Donabate. After taking the loss of the initial 90 euro I decided to try elsewhere and got the whole lot done in one sitting for 120 euro almost a third of the cost, and by an excellent dentist in Swords. I fail to understand the comparison suggested by some that an essential health requirement like having teeth extracted, or filled etc is the same as having your hair done. People have to have their teeth taken care of, the same as if they are injured and have to attend a doctor/hospital. And I am sorry to say that there are plenty of people in Ireland that would bat an eye at having to pay 600 euro to have their car serviced. In any case I have not yet met a mechanic that wanted to charge me 90 euro before he did any work on the car, (but it's ok for dentists). There seems to be far more standardisation of prices for doctors than for dentists. Some dentists in Ireland seem to be using their position to extract far more money from people than they should. |

I don't have the contact details for Swords but John Heeney in Balbriggan is very good. The number there is 8417344. They are open late and take emergencies all the time.
Good luck |
