Why only Soccer? Especially as it would be funded by the Sports Council. There are other sports.

With the Tesco facility at Turvey and an application from Dunnes for a similar monster warehouse, along with two other applications for multi-building warehouses currently with the council, I feel we as a community must call a halt to development at Turvey, whether that is warehouses or football stadiums.

Have to disagree with you there Tonto.

I think there should be more commercial development down at the Turvey area. I'd like to see the people of Donabate and Portrane getting jobs and work closer to their homes.

Donabate does not have to be a commuter town.

I'm sure there are many commuter would love to ride a bike down a nice new bicycle lane on the Turvey Ave on their way to work rather than sitting for hours on the M1/M50 or squeezed like sardines on the Irish Rail.

The more factories and commercial units built in Turvey, the better it will be for Donabate and Portrane.

Good point JPK. I'm sure commuters would love to ride a bike down a nice new bicycle lane on the Turvey Ave. Unfortunately in the EIS/(EIA?) for the Dunnes facility there is not a word about cyclying or walking. In fact they want a multistory car park on the site.

Someone told me that the acddemy is being 'fronted' y Liam Buckley who used to play for Shels, but is 'backed' by anonymous investors. Why anon? What's the need for secrecy? Is it the guy who wanted to build Disneyland in Blakes Cross? Perhaps its Osama Bin Laden?
Lets have a competition. Who would want to 'invest' in the League of Ireland where so many millions have been made..... NOT!
Answers on a postcard please to the County Manager. I'm sure he wants to know as well.

Hi ec. Yep, our addiction to the car is massive. Nothing can be built without having an equal space set aside for cars.

I was tring to figure out who would use it.

The FAI for the international team.
Dublin based Eircom league teams for winter training indoors.
Local schools.
Soccer teams looking for some intesive coaching and training.

All of these can be delivered to the site by coach.

Why all the car spaces?????

submissions may be made in writing to: Senior Executive Officer, Community Recreation and Amenities Department, Fingal County Council, County Hall, Swords, Fingal, Co. Dublin on or before Wed 27th February 2008.

Can't imagine Dublin City Council would get permission for this on Bull Island somehow.

National Tree Week - see real-life ministers
From Coilte:

National Launch of National Tree Week 2008
by Mary Wallace TD Minister for Forestry,
Dept Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry
Venue: Turvey, Donabate
Org: Tree Council of Ireland
& Fingal County Council
Date: Sunday 2 March
Time: 11.00am
Contact: Tree Council, 01 493 1313
Fingal County Council is holding a plantation
on the site from 11.00 to 4.00 and hope to
plant 5,000 trees

From Bird Watch Ireland:

Coincidentally, the official national launch of National Tree Week is happening at 11.00am on on the very site under threat from the new stadium proposal. All the Councillors concerned are likely to present for the launch which is being done by Minister Trevor Sargent TD. This presents an ideal opportunity to demonstrate the value of the area and the potential loss involved in the proposal to the very persons who will be voting on its future.

The Branch will be using the opportunity presented to impress on the Councillors the value of retaining the lands involved as a natural space but it will assist our case enormously if sufficient numbers attend to help reinforce the message.

Accordingly we are asking that, if at all possible, people would consider attending the launch on Sunday next ? if only for an hour between 10.30am & 11.00am.

For those who wish to stay longer there will be a range of family focussed activities to help pass the time
