My 13 year old son has taken up this hobby of Warhammer.
For the adults out there who have never heard of it, it consists of small models that he paints and various other creatures such as goblins, trolls, elves and so on.
Very much like the Lord of the Rings world.
He has a set of figures called Warhammer 40000.
There are groups of players around Dublin who come together to form clubs and they compete against each other. There are rules of engagement and so on and its quite complicated.
I know that there is one group in Blanchardstown and another in Balbriggan.
What I want to do is start one in Donabate.
I propose to hire a room in the Community Center for a couple of hours on a saturday or sunday and supervise the "young warriors" while they play and paint and learn their stratagies.
If you have any children who are fans of this hobby, please contact me and we'll see if we can organise a group.
I imagine the rental would be fairly reasonable and we could charge a cover fee to cover the cost but it should not be too much maybe 2?-3? each.

Hi Gandalf. Any age could join. I envisage a situation where there would be a constant turnover of people coming and going.
Nothing too formal with an emphasis on learning and appreciation.
There could be oppurtunities to engage the services of someone from another club to come and give guidance and then just let it happen from there.
If your son is an LOTR fan then thats great cos I'm a monster fan too. I plan on investing in a few of the official LOTR models from the Games Shop.
My own son has promised to paint them for me. We could do this at the Donabate Warhammer Workshop (DWW).
I'm hoping to start up in the next couple of weeks as soon as I have a chat with the DPCC management about the hire of a room.
They have some great rooms there with plenty of good light.
Ideal of model work. |

Myself and my young lad are going down to the Center on Saturday next (23 Feb) to sort out a room.
I got calls from about 6 different people looking to participate.
Hopefully it'll be up and running very soon. |

From Saturday 8th March 2008 from 4pm to 6pm, we have the use of a great room in the Donabate Community Centre.
Its got a bank of windows along one wall for great natural light plus several large tables and plenty of chairs to use.
We have hired it for two hours (4pm - 6pm)every saturday until furter notice.
It will cost the gamers 2 euro each and will be done on a pay&play basis.

Quick update on the Donabate Warhammer Club. I had said in an earlier post that it would be 2euro for the 2 hours.
I made a slight error in calculations there.
It will be 3euro for the 2 hours.
Starting March 8th, Satutrday evening from 4pm - 6pm in the Donabate & Portrane Community Centre |
