Pasta Castella - Ridiculouly overpriced??
Hi,

Does anyone else think that Pasta Castella is way too expensive?

I was there recently and to be fair it ticked most of the boxes - good menu, nice atmosphere, friendly staff, food not bad without being outstanding - but I couldn't believe the prices. The cheapest plate of pasta is over ?15 and steaks are up around ?25 and over - this is the sort of prices you would pay in a top restaurant in the centre of Dublin. I actually ate in Roly's of Ballsbridge recently and it was cheaper! Virtually everyone I know in the area who has been to Pasta Castella thinks the same as me.

I've lived in Donabate for nearly 3 years and I've been there 3 times. If the prices were reasonable that figure would be more like 15-20 times. I certainly don't mind spending good money in restaurants, but the prices have to be comensurate with what's on offer. Pasta Castella could do with taking a leaf out of the Garage's book and dropping their prices - since they did that, everytime I go past the forecourt is packed with cars. It's amazing how some businesses don't understand that lower margins usually result in more customers and bigger profits - especially in a small community like our own where word-of-mouth ptomotion is so important. So come on Pasta Castella, drop the prices a bit and you'll most likely experience a lot more local custom - or someone else will eventually open a new restaurant and clean up!

I couldn't agree more! The good lady and I both love Italian food and would be regulars there if the prices were more attractive.

They recently started doing special offers on Monday and Tuesday nights, so perhaps they are beginning to realise that some of their potential customers are price conscious.

The portion sizes are too big as well, they could cut the pizza size down by half, and half the price!

Pasta Castella - Ridiculouly overpriced??
Have lived in Donabate now for 3 years also and have eaten with the two growing boys at Pasta Castella only 3 times. The last time being over 6 months ago. I would not go again. Agree portion size way too large and the prices are ridiculous. Also agree staff friendly but food was hit and miss. Nothing to write home about. Had the menu of the day which was monk fish with pasta. Was good but not for 26 Euro. Working in town I know a good Italian and the prices. They could take a leaf from Little Caesars on College Green. Great food and good reasonable prices. Keelings Pub did serve excellent food and great prices till before Christmas, why oh why did they change the menu. Home made burger, was a really home made. Now it?s like something from the Chipper. Fresh Pasta, Steaks, all gone now. Why they ever changed a winning formula, I will never know.

Spot on Maria, we used to go to Keelings weekly ourselves, but not now since the prices shot up 33%. Sad state of affairs really... Awful choice of eateries in Donabate; Malahide/Swords the only alternative.

The food there is very poor. Pizza bases are stodgy, pasta cooked within an inch of its life. They don't even make all food from fresh. I think it was a case of Dolmio tomato sauce I saw going in one day.

I actually went there only once i think. My girlfriend had some king of Monkfish Mediterranean pasta. The monkfish was very tough and i thought her pasta was overcooked. I dont actually remember what i had!
Anyway, we went and ordered 2 pizzas to take away the other day and they are waaayyyy to big + the pizza base is too thick. It is rare enough that i do not finish a pizza when i order one but with 1/2 of that one i was stuffed!
