Its a sad day if the Community Council supported the rezoning of Recreational land after the blood sweat and tears of individuals and groups like the Campaign Against Developers Dumping on Donabate (CADDD)in trying to limit the amount of rezoning in the Donabate area less than two years ago.

What about all those public meetings held by the Community Council OPPOSING the rezonings and trying to limit the effect of the Donabate Local Area Plan.

And when that plan was finally passed with hundreds of acres of land rezoned to residential, suddenly ANOTHER little parcel (sure its only a little parcel) of land is rezoned residential.

Did the Community Council not think there was enough land rezoned that it felt obliged to SUPPORT the rezoning of yet more again.

Shame on them.

The mind boggles.......

Name the members of the Donabate Portrane Community Council who SUPPORTED the REZONING of lands OUTSIDE of the Donabate Local Area Plan.

Hi, again, it?s totally off the wall to compare the huge corrupt rezoning of the Variation 34 / Donabate LAP lands by the FF/FG/PD councillors in 2004 and the wish by Turvey Golf Club to stay viable and preserve the open green space of the golf club for the future. Turvey Golf Club are very generous in providing meeting space for community groups and are also protecting the ruins of Turvey House (a protected structure). This rezoning will potentially build 20 houses which will not be seen from the road and won?t overlook Rogerstown Estuary.
To clarify the community council position, I understand that Turvey Golf Club made a presentation to the community council as a matter of courtesy last year. As far as I know, based on the meeting the community council unanimously decided that it had no major objections. You can come to the Community Council AGM and raise the matter if you like. It should be on soon enough and will be advertised around the area.

The AGM for the Donabate Portrane Community Council is on the 24th April.

I'm saddened and shocked that ordinary residents would support the rezoning of Recreational land.

It reduces my faith in that organisation to uphold the views of people who support the view that the Local Area Plan is enough.

Sad day indeed.

Maybe its time another community group is formed to protect the recreational lands and green space areas of our community?

Hi, there is always room for new organisations, like Fairshare, CADDD etc. However, you better check with the community council about the details of the Turvey issue.
IMHO though, you're totally off the mark and are over simplifying the matter regarding Turvey. FF/FG/PD cllrs doing the dirty work for wealthy property developers and damaging local communities is one thing, but supporting a local voluntary sports club is another thing altogether. Suggesting they are in the same league just ain't credible.

"but supporting a local voluntary sports club is another thing altogether. Suggesting they are in the same league just ain't credible"

To PFPM, this is a ridiculous standpoint. So what its not in the same league, does that mean we have to accept recreational lands being turned into another block of eyesore apartments for the benefit of a few and at the price of the community?

I'm sure your fanatical loyalty to the counsellor is admirable, but you have yet to provide any reason why this development should be allowed to go ahead other than it benefits your little golf club and that we should all shut up and let it happen because you feel its "not in the same league"??? Have you seem some of the monstrosities that are approved by the good counsellors of Fingal? I'm sure if you could see their bank accounts there would be less of these "approvals".

If Turvey needs funds, tell them to raise the cost of membership. Building apartments on amenity land, approved or not, is just greed and abuse of the land they have at the expense of the community. We don't need more apartments in Donabate so badly that they have to built on golf lands.

Hi, from watching the webcast of the council meeting, the plan is for 20 or so houses, not apartments. I'm not a member of Turvey myself, but I know many decent people involved in it. The whole thing will have to go on public display, so people can comment on and organise against the plans then if they so wish. Regarding your accusations of corruption, no Labour party councillor has been accused such, whereas countless FF/FG/PD cllrs have been dragged before the Planning Tribunal. Fingal county council is responsible for a lot of disgraceful planning decisions, but unlike the bad old days of developer led corrupt planning, Labour/Green/Socialist/Sinn F←in etc. cllrs pursue the community's interest and put people first.
