Keelings menu and management
I'm not a begrudger, I just don't like spending my hard earned cash on sub-standard food, The pub itself is fine for a pint, it's the food & certain staff I have a problem with. It has the potential to be a goldmine if (dare I say it) it was managed well, Donabate/Portrane have a limited amount of places to eat, for the amount of families in the area, if they served decent food, had kiddies meals, crayons for kids etc. to keep them amused etc. I would find it hard to believe that they would be financially struggling. I think a bit of research should be done, as the potential is definitely there. It's a good spot just needs a bit of initiative. Maybe to get this message accross customers should vote with their feet, maybe then management will open their eyes and see they have a minor problem........

I'm definitely not a begrudger, nor have I been ejected from any of the other venues in the area.

I've been drinking in Keelings for the last 30 + years. I do agree with other posters to this thread though that as a pub it's a great place but the food had definitely gone downhill. Maybe Donal and Tony should take the time to read some of the other threads on this site that relate to eateries (and the lack of variety) in the area and they would realise what a potentially great place they have.

It would be nice to have some more vegetarian options too.

Town Drunk sure isn?t moaning, creating rumors and interfering with other peoples business what drives the Donabate community from locals to blow-ins, it must be something in the water, even moaning about people moaning on the internet is common practice, everyone likes to think that they know everything about everyone else in this area, how many times has a mouse come over the bridge and before it reaches Portrane its an Elephant?if its none of your business then its worth spreading around especially in Kellings?now come on being the well known town drunk that you are, I am sure you have let loose a story or two in your time

We went to Keelings on Saturday evening for dinner. Four of us had lovely pub grub and the food bill was under 40 euro.

There was a lovely atmosphere in the place and for the first time in a good while, there was enough staff both at the bar and on the floor.

Perhaps the tide has turned and things are looking up - I hope so!

Brynic ,The two boys in Keelings have had the courage to open a business and to invest heavily in it .Instead of being so critical why dont you put your money where your mouth is and open your own restaraunt in Donabate and then people can judge your business acumen ,if it wasn't for business. people like Donal and Tony willing to take the risk , we would have no facilities in Donabate .I say thank you to them for giving us a very comfortable enviroment to have lunch and a nice drink .

donal and tony business men. thats a laugh. who invests the guts of 2.5 mil into someone else's property. easter sun was a disgrace in there. so packed - the fire officer would have closed it down. one bar man on trying to cope and donal floating around and watched the happenings on camera. bring back david keeling

I have eaten in Keelings on occasion only ,but found the overall food and service to be good. Perhaps it has gone downhill a bit but if you really want the worst possible experience eating out in the penninsula , try The Waterside !

It's hard to believe it's not called Fawlty Towers ! The staff in the restaurant area are clueless ; the food arrives late ( & cold ) and is pricey for what little you get. I would not eat there again unless Gordon Ramsey took it over !

It's a shame as it could really do the business if it were managed properly. Still a nice place to go for a pint during the summer when you can chill out on the deck and enjoy the scenery.

It's a shame though, more people didn't use the centre when it had it's bar license. The lighting was c**p but it was reasonable and cheaper than anywhere else to go for a pint. Definitely lacking in atmosphere but that was due to low numbers more than anything else.

I think Keelings is a good pub but if you have other opinions then you should talk to the owners as I am sure they would be happy to hear your views.

no i am not their accountant pegasus, but i am a quantity surveyor so just do the sums pegausus. its not that difficult. as for packed to the rafters on sun. no it was not something done right it just happened that there were 2 matches on. and if you think enjoyment is sitting in a packed pub watching people neck shots at 5ish is good fun - i don't. and to watch donal peeping out doors and around corners moaning about them and hoping they would keep the noise down. he still took their money. thats my point. they are not business men!
