Keelings menu and management
So, let me get this right... anyone who makes a negative comment on Keeling's is basically (a) a "begrudger" or (b) should shut the hell up up and open a restaurant to back up their statement. I like that last point best, because it makes no sense at all. If you don't agree with the church, do you have to start your own religion? If you hate the quality of programs on RTE, do you need to start your own TV station?

Is this China we're living in? People that say anything negative about local businesses are not to be tolerated?

Everyone is entitled to spend their money where they like. Everyone also has the right to say, anywhere and on any medium (that included the internet), if that service/food was a pile of shite. Its not a personal attack on anyone that actually likes the food in Keeling's, its just everyone is entitled to an opinion. And with food, opinions matter as its subjective. One man's fast food is another banquet.

I personally think the food choices in Donabate as a whole is appalling and the service in all establishments ranges from mediocre to downright ignorant (tip for Cates staff: try smiling at least once in any given day). And as a consumer, who earns his cash, I am entitled to spend my money where I like and say what I like about that service. Isn't everyone else on this form not entitled to the same?

To al small minded people out there bad food, bad service, more veggie dishes on the menu, people drinking shots a 5ish, not business men, and i have to say the very very best of all "bring back dave k".

To all of the above I have had lunch midweek dinner on weekends with both family and friends an have been there for many sundays and also spent quite a few nights there .The service and quality of the food have always been very good.

As for more veggie dishes on the menu "L" you know who you are jog on down to the local cafe i think they serve quiche lorraine or prehaps to the water side for ???"lets face it lads most of us have tried it nice hall way it stops there" or what you could do is ask a member of staff the girls a very nice and helpfull is there any specials on there are most days that i eat there.

Next people drinking shots a 5ish MMmm it a pub some people even drink spirts and pints as well but like another mesage said i have never seen a stool fly across the lounge, and then not business men next time you are there look around and then remember what it used to look like a BARN with little pastry pies in hot units behind the bar with the rest of the menu NUTS AND CRIPS nice!!!!and sorry for giong on a bit bring back "Dave K" for what the Barn look or maybe the pastry pies....All i can say is well done to the two lads job well done and the dj is a funny fecker.

Could someone translate that last post for me if they get a chance. Thanks.

I have very rarely had a bad experience in Keelings but I agree that the quality of the food seems to have slipped recently (and I have pointed that out to them). Having said that, compared to the other pub in Donabate when you just want a pint, it is heaven.

I defer to your professional opinion Pidgeon re the cost of the refurbishement,an amazing figure .All I am saying ,and the investment at that level deserves it ,is to give them time to get things right ,suggest changes in a positive constructive manner.Customer feedback is vital to the continued success of any business, and if they are not businessmen they will not heed what they are being told .However I believe they are listening ,having returned live music to the lounge area .Now all they need to do is focus on the menu and try some new things and see what the feedback is .What do you think Pidgeon ?

i believe that Keelings produces the best food in Donabate. OK so we arent exactly spoiled for choice but in my opinion, from what is there, it is by far the best. The menu choice is good for a pub and also the specials are usually good too.

However I do believe that the pre-Christmas menu, which they had for at least a year, was far nicer than the current menu. And yes the homemade burger is the obvious one.

One or two of the staff leave a lot to be desired and the bar service is at times very very slow, especially when there are only a handful of people in the back lounge.

But apart from that I think its a really good local to have. There is a choice of a bar and two lounges which in any pub is a great choice and so far I've seen no trouble in any of them.

i don't believe they listen to customer feedback. they did'nt listen when advised 5 years ago not to get rid of the live music. they got rid of a very good chef before xmas and replaced him with cheap labour and thats why (i believe) the standard went down. also i agree with other posts that there is'nt a decent place in donabate to eat. bar the old ping court. the sooner the better shelman properties gets their pub up and running the better. donal and tony have been known to state as they raised the prices a few weeks ago. "quote" sure what about it - theres nowhere else for you to go." its that kind of comment that turns people off them. and ask the question. what happened the off licence both in donabate and clonee. both closed down. why? must be because they are such wonderful businessmen.

Shelman applied for planning permission to build a pub, rstaurant, shops and I think a library up beside the Gallery apartments. As far as I know though, planning permission was refused

Could well be. I am not 100% sure. I hadn't checked it in a few months. As far as I know the council said it didn't fit into their plans under the Local Area Plan so it might be hard to get permission. The piece of land is right beside the station so I wouldn't be surprised to see a CPO put on it and see it turned into a car park which would be a shame.
