agree it would be awful pity to turn it into a car park. it would be nice to have somewhere else to go.

Yes old man shelman planning was refused in the early part of 2007,and i will also like to add Pidgen you realy have alot to say regarding other topics re the off licence but i thought this topic was keelings menu and management.

As i have said i use keelings very often and it very nice to have a choice of two lounges and a bar i think that the nicest place for a pint is the snug the poeple in there are sound apart from a few locals who think they have the inside scoop on the keelings and tony and donals afairs if i was to guess i would say pidgeon is in that bracket and propley one of the locals who gives out about the pub and the staff and the lads but still is one of those who are first in after a sad office job at five ish every day.

Buzza:

"It's hard to believe it's not called Fawlty Towers ! The staff in the restaurant area are clueless ; the food arrives late ( & cold ) and is pricey for what little you get. I would not eat there again unless Gordon Ramsey took it over!"

Slightly off topic but are you sure about Gordon?

Also, seeing that criticism is healthy in any democracy, could posters please learn the difference between "there" and "their". It's not that difficult.

I know it's off topic but as far as I know the 'wine bar', shops and library are still supposed to be going ahead at the Gallery, permission was given but no tenants have been confirmed yet so it depends who they can get in to the place. At the moment progress seems to have ground to a halt with this whole sub-prime economic climate thing.

Hadn't been paying too much heed to this thread until my missus came back from a dinner with her sister the other night in Keelings.

We used to go all the time but hadn't been there this year.

Said she'd never go back. Food and service were totally different.. in a bad way.

An older waitress who had served us alot in the past stood over her waiting for the bill to be paid as if she was gonna do a runner or something. Bad atmosphere she said.

Pity. Real shame. USed to like that chef's steaks.

I am a member of staff in keelings and I myself appreciate all of the honesty but dont fully agree with some of the comments,I would first like to say I think Donal and Tony are doing a good job give them a break it cant be easy..As for the staff,I think they are all great..Ok maybe were not in top form 24/7 but who is.I cant argue on food situation as i only really eat the chicken curry as i think its gorgeous!!.We now have kareoke on fridays and its always a great night out and a brilliant dj sat night..If everybody spent more time focusing on the positive things going on in there rather then the negitive it would be a better place with more people in it.The late bar will be in soon along with bands so give it a chance to turn around I mean where else in Donabate u going to socialise??Smyths??Not many pubs have 3different areas to socialise in especially in Donabate so I think it should be appreciated.I am sorry to hear such bad views on the place as I am so fond of it and its not just the pub its the staff and customers to so just give the place a chance.

Keelings menu and management
As I have said on another post Chicks, my family and I ate in Keelings about 3 times a week until just before Christmas. I have absolutely no problem with the staff or the service, actually I used to enjoy chatting to Margaret and some of the others. I am also quite sure the changes with the music and dj?s will be great for the young population in Donabate. My disappointment was with the new food menu. How can an establishment go from such a fine and well presented menu to the one now in place. If the owners felt they were not making money on the old one, they should have upped their prices a little. At least they would have kept the customers like ourselves who ate there at 6 or 7 of an evening leaving plenty of space for the drinkers later. Again, I am very disappointed with the new menu. Best of luck with the changes. Hopefully someone will tap into the obvious good food need in Donabate.

Well, you're a very conscientious member of staff to be supporting your managers so robustly.

I hope they're paying you well Tony.. I mean Donal... I mean Chicks.. ;-)
