| Do you mean this "internet" community or the community at large? |

| Well..the community as a whole, as the term community at large could be elaborated into an ungodly rumor |

Where do the rumours get spread? Over the garden fence or in the hairdressers and pubs?
I tend to drink in town, and my wife butchers my hair - so I hear nothing.

| Most definitely yes ! I've lived in Donabate for the past 13 years and I was involved in a committee for over 10 years of that time. We used to say that what started as a mouse at the bridge in Donabate became a mountain by the time it reached Portrane. |

Now I'm upset.
I've lived in Portrane all my life - even hubby couldn't get me to move but i've not seen either elephants or mountains here yet.
In answer to the question though, yes I do think all communities, not just Donabate/Portrane, thrive on rumour, but also on speculation, and this goes way way back to before the internet was a twinkle in anyone's eye. |

Having a chat and speculating about the world and the street next door is not new.
What is new is doing it anonumously.
I do feel if you have something to say you should be man(or woman) enough to sign your name to it.
By the way, my name IS Johnny...;) |

| Donabate and Portrane are definately a community that thrieve on rumours and gossip. For instance I know of one couple that were so happy and in love with no cares in the world that were broken up by all the rumours that started in the parish and they no longer even talk to each other.I just want to know what gives people the right to do all this and destroy people's happiness when they did'nt do anyone any harm. I just hope the people who do all this are happy within themselves. |
