Roma Situation

Got this back from Michael Kennedy.

Can we agree to keep this thread FACTUAL and leave any personal views on the Roma to other threads .. or the pub.

MK:

"I am very well aware of the Roma family living in the cottages and many people have been in touch with me on the issue.
I am in ongoing communications with the council on it as I have concerns about the sanitory effects of their occupancy and also the health implications for the family-members, and I have learned that following:
The cottage is private property, undergoing Probate at the moment - this means that Fingal Council is not authorised to evict the family and possibly re-house them elsewhere.
Furthermore, because the property is the subject of Probate, ownership has not been established and so it is impossible to determine who has the power to evict the family. The family involved in the Probate are keen to see the Roma leave, but as mentioned they are not empowered with the authority to do so.

I will once again contact the council on your behalf to get an update, as it is monitoring the situation.
Michael Kennedy"

Nice impersonal and factual response there Snapper.

Where have they moved to now, out of interest. Is there a plethora of empty cottages on the peninsula or something?

I can't see why the executors of the estate can't issue legal proceedings for ejectment. These people can be slowly acquiring rights under adverse posession the longer that this goes on.

I presume the cottage Michael Kennedy is referring to is the one beside the railway line.
I believe the house on the Hearse Road they are now in is owned by developers. If that is the case then I wonder if the developers will want to go to the trouble of eviction proceedings?

There is no shortage of potential squats for them
to occupy in the area especially around Ita's, and anyway with summer approaching camping out is probably something they are likely to do.

If they cannot be deported ( leaving aside how easy it is for them to come back ) then I don't see an end to this problem.

When Romania and Bulgaria have full rights of migration etc. the fun will really start!

Michaels comment regarding the possible rehousing of the Roma if they were to be evicted does not make sense .The people in question are on the island illegally {having outstayed their permitted time here } and are subject to deportation if immigration were to pay them a visit .The council are never going to house Roma under any condition .If they did there would be an invasion .
The problem here , appears to be the immigration authorities and their lack of action, not FCC or the Gardai .
What are our immigration officials doing ?Nothing .

Michael Kennedy never makes sense!! he is a tosser and has never done anything for the Donabate/ portrane area except lip service!

as for empty cottages the Roma have taken to squatting in two locations since the railway cottage was closed to them, and I notciced the recent baracading on the cottage on Turvey rd the one by the church dig...theres every reason to belive that we will have these guests for the summer and beyond I said it before they like the weather here compared to their home we have easy winters and mild summers...

Sadly the reason that these people can exploit loopholes and general apathy from so called public representatives is due to silly outdated laws and incompetent fools ala Michael Kennedy.
The man is as much use as t*ts on a bull !However he was voted in by equally stupid people so we will just have to put up with him I suppose !
I have to laugh at the possible re-housing of the Roma's though; particularly when there are far more deserving Irish and legal immigrants who are on lengthy waiting lists for homes. I think that Mike and his ilk could not see the bigger picture with the help of the Hubble microscope & so it would appear that these people are going to be an issue for this area for quite some time. Thanks for posting his response though as it's nice to know that Mike remains impotent as ever !
