| Oh and the politicans can claim all the credit for the school that they want when the school building is built. Not when a couple of classes are put together in a community centre. anyone want to guess when this will be built? Anyone want to bet that money set aside is gone on something else already and this temporary situation is going be the long term solution |

GUBU, I'm sick of complaining to the council over that bump on the main street. And yes I've contacted several local politicians.
Have YOU asked Mick to fix it for us yet? |

GUBU & Westen have every right to support MK if they so desire and fair play to them as it's a very difficult task to support someone in public that has done so little for Donabate & Portrane over the years.
A few years ago in the sports hall at the leisure centre , there was a meeting held with regard to the proposed LAP and rezoning of land in the penninsula. The first thing that Mike said when he addressed the audience was '' if your telling me that you want a technological park built, then I will support you all the way'' ! To which he received stunned silence and then deserved derision. A tech park had never been on anybody's agenda so perhaps he was in the wrong meeting ! He was one of the folks who put his name to a meeting with Fingal councllors whereby he signed his support for their crazy scheming prior to the LAP scheme becoming public knowledge and without any consultation from the people he represents ( that includes GUBU and Westen by the way ). When questioned about this he became very flustered and could find no adequate response to reasonable questions.
So go ahead and support Malahide Mike all ye want folks but there is a village out there missing it's idiot and he should be returned post haste !! |

Instead of campaigning to Michael Kennedy about the situation, perhaps it would be best to contact the Immigration/Justice Department directly. If, as it is generally assumed, it is the case that these Roma people are in fact illegal, they will be processed and shipped out of the country accordingly.
Many do-gooders out there may call it racism or whatever (when it blatantly is not), but the fact remains if they are not legal they should not be granted permission to stay on in this country. I know every time I visit the USA/Australia, I undergo severe scrutiny to be allowed entry, as should always be the case when certain borders are being crossed. That is not the case here and it must become that way |

I'm just home from town. Was accosted by one of our local Roma while walking down Marlborough St. A young woman with a baby. She was pushing the baby into my face and made repeated attempts to block my path. Another man came up while this was going on and grabbed my arm saying "please, please". I did not recognise this man as one of the locals here. I apologised, said truthfully that I had no change to give them and tried to leave. The man held onto my arm. I was feeling somewhat intimidated at this stage and was contemplating what to do about the situation, when the man let go of my arm suddenly and walked swiftly away. The woman moved off in the direction of North Earl St.
I called into the office to pick up a file and walked down to Connolly to get the train back to Donabate. On getting to the station I realised that my wallet was nowhere to be found. It was not in my pocket, nor was it in my bag. I phoned my bank and cancelled my cards and then called the Gardai who told me that they had gotten several reports of similar incidents over the previous few weeks.
So I would like to warn anyone that comes upon a similar situation to remain vigilant and keep a close hold on their personal possessions |

edtheted,
I'm sorry to hear of your misfortune.
I don't know if you originally reported to the Gardai that you thought you had recognised the woman as a person who could be found in the Donabate area, but if you didn't, I suggest you contact Swords Gardai (6664700)and advise them of this fact.
If this person is the same woman whom you have seen in Donabate and you are prepared to positively identify them as an accomplice in the perpetration of this crime, both the premises and the people who are illegally squatting in it,could be searched under warrant by the Gardai, in the course of their investigation, if they apply for it.ref: Criminal Justice Act 2006

I know some will hanker "we don't want a police state, sure it's only a wallet with a few bob in it, can't you well afford it....and God love them, they have nothing and need money for a bit of food, etc" .
Yes we (and I'll include our somewhat mute elected representatives) are all aware and can empathise with their and our communities particular plight in trying to stumble through and manage this particular matter.
But WHERE exactly is the political leadership on this issue ?
The lack of clarity and communication to concerned citizens regarding a solution and its implementation timeline is appalling.
People shifting/being shifted from one derelict site to another won't solve the overall problem but if it is subsequently proven that somebody is breaking the law to sustain and support their "holiday" in Ireland, then the State bodies must act appropiately in accordance with the law and their obligations to the citizens of this state. |

| I did report the fact to the Gardai, I do hope they do something about it but we shall see. The only loss was being inconvenienced. There was only about ?20 in the wallet. I really just posted it as a warning. Having heard from the Gardai in Sotre St. that it had happened a few times before. I'm a fairly big guy and I found it intimidating. I can only imagine if it was an elderly person or a woman with children in tow. Just be careful |
