The RECORD OF PROTECTED STRUCTURES
The RECORD OF PROTECTED STRUCTURES in Fingal
http://www.fingalcoco.ie/devplan/yourfingal/Stage4/written_statement/Appendix%20A-Record%20of%20Protected%20Structures%20.pdf

I?m trying to find online what a? PROTECTED STRUCTURE ? actually means.
I know there are grades etc but who enforces their protection and if someone in ownership isn?t compliant etc ,who gets shot in the neck the owner or the protector?

The RECORD OF PROTECTED STRUCTURES
I've done some digging on this myself and according to the dept. of Environment website, a protected structure is defined as "a structure that a local authority considers to be of special interest from an architectural, historical, archaeological, artistic, cultural, scientific, social or technical point of view. Details of protected structures are entered by the authority in its Record of Protected Structures, which is part of the Development Plan. Each owner and occupier of a protected structure is legally obliged to ensure that the structure is preserved." See http://www.environ.ie/en/Heritage/ArchitecturalProtectionandHeritagePolicy/PublicationsDocuments/FileDownLoad,3498,en.doc

Now here comes the messy bit. If you look at the link to Fingal CoCo's list of protected structures in the above post, it becomes apparent that Woodbine House is NOT listed as a protected structure.

At the DPCC AGM, the term I heard that house described as "listed" and not "protected structure". I have no idea what difference there is, if any at all.

The RECORD OF PROTECTED STRUCTURES
The contact details for the conservation officer, FCC were posted elsewhere, but I have been unable to find the correct thread.
The property in question is a protected structure. (Formally known as listed) Apparently, it is a very good example of a "vernacular" property and also has a forge. One of only three such properties in Fingal.
As squatters are present, the derelict sites section of FCC will not board up the building.
FCC are currently confirming that legal title remains with Shelman Properties and will subsequently issue letter requesting that the property be rendered structurally intact and access prevented.

The RECORD OF PROTECTED STRUCTURES
To briefly update. The owner of this property contacted the conservation officer at FCC this morning. The conservation officer is hopeful, but not certain, that the matter can be dealt with without resort to letters. This would involve preservation of structure in state as at time of purchase.

The RECORD OF PROTECTED STRUCTURES
It is hoped that a meeting within the next four weeks may go some way toward safeguarding the future of the structure in a proper state.

Although I would have thought that whilst discussions were ongoing, the property could be rendered inaccessible...
