Yuck!
Maybe I'm missing something but I can spot a few people (myself included) who would say that you comparison is unjust. You may have just referenced a quote, but in referencing it in the way you did I can guarantee you offended a good proportion of the population of donabate. The quote may have been somewhat similar to the messages left on here but that does not forgive the comparison to one of the most evil men in history.

To have compared what has been said on here to hitler is wrong. No matter what way you try to paint it it is wrong. In future if you wish to make a point a less inflammatory reference might be more suitable...

Terrontress has given us a direct quotation from the writings of a madman before he came to power and asked us to compare it to some of the comments posted here, I can see some similarities. Are the people of Donabate Nazis supporting genocide NO, but you can see the comments are affecting some of the weaker minds and personalities out there.

I thought that the reference was apt re dehumanisation. The only difference here is scale and consequence.

But who is dehumanising them? Are you denying that there are hygene issues with this group of people because they do not have access to basic sanitary facilities? Whats so racist and wrong about pointing out the reality of the situation? Hitler's rants in some piece of garbage that he wrote have nothing to do with anything. If you saw an Irish family with children live in those conditions, would people be saying 'ah sure leave them alone'? Would you let your child pop down to their house and play with their kids or even like them to be in the same classroom knowing that they don't have access to a shower or toilet?
I don't think they should necessarily be shoved on the next plane back home but neither do I think it is acceptable to have families living on roundabouts and in derelict houses with no facilities and no chance of integration into a coummunity. The problem is that it is obvious that it can't be discussed sensibly without stupid comments and accusations being made from people on both sides of the debate. And I don't mean just on this forum. For Gods sake even the politicians are afraid to touch this and show leadership. Time people grew up and stopped swapping schoolyard insults and try and deal with the issue at hand. I would be interested to know if the people on this site who think the Roma should be just left alone would have been happy to let the Roma camp on the M50 last year continue as it was?

I have sympathy for these people. Especially for children being born into an almost inescapable poverty trap. However we have societal standards (not to mention laws) that anyone who comes here must abide by.
They chose to come here so they must integrate. That is the only way we can actually help these people. If they come and act as they wish we are not only ruining our society but we are enabling them to perpetuate a lifestyle of crime and deprivation.

Let's just agree that killing people is simply wrong and Hitler was an arsehole who wrote a bad book which is of no relevance to the Roma's in Donabate ! Mein Kak would have been a more apt title. In any case , these people do need help but do not want it. They are not here to integrate and belong to our community ; they are here to earn money in well organised begging rings and are not entitled to anything more than a flight back to their home country ( which they should pay for and not us the tax payers ).
If itinerants moved to Donabate en masse and conducted themselves in a similar fashion, would terrontress, jolly and all the other pro Roma folks support them too ?

Buzza, I'm not suere it is as simple as pro-Roma. More like anti-bigotry.
I don't know about anyone else here, but I think I will officially retire from discussing this any further until something actually happens.
We can agree to disagree on some of the points surrounding this, but I think that there will be endless back and forth based on personal tendencies, including my own.
No more Roma talk from me, in 3... 2... 1... now

whilst i appreciate some of our councillors/senators/td's read and sometimes contribute to this forum, as far as I can see none of them have commented on this issue, which to me means they are afraid to for some reason.

By the way, at this stage I wish this thread was locked and/or removed because some of whats been written is awful.

The Roma are not begging in Donabate so I am not sure that their daytime activities is relevant on here. There is alot of evidence to suggest that they are being forced to beg against their will by criminal masterminds who are allocating them their pitch to beg and then taking nearly all the money from them.

The fact is that they are having very little impact on life in the village, many non-Roma people are creating much more trouble, but they are easily identifiable hence the uproar on here.

The only thing that people can point to is their sitting on the grass and drinking cans, walking on the road where there is no footpath and smelling bad.

I have sat on grass in several locations in good weather and enjoyed a beer. It is one of the pleasures of life.

No footpath on the road where people have to walk along to get to their home as they can't afford a car. Call the council.

Smelly on the train? So are so many others, but they are not as identifiable.

As for councillors, TDs, senators. I'm not surprised they are not contributing. The whole issue is a hornet's nest. They'd be mad to get involved.

Terrontress, would you be happy if they all broke into the house next door to you and squatted illegally? Would you be happy if they used the garden next door as a toilet?

You are either completely missing the point on this or stirring for the sake of stirring.

Are you happy that they are not paying tax on their substantial earnings?
Are you happy that they choose not to wash and cause potential health issues for anyone around them?
Are you happy that their kids dont go to school?

If these people were working and renting accomodation then there would be no issue whatsoever. But they are not. They choose not to. They are here illegally.
You obviously condone illegal activities.
