| Terrontress can i ask where the "evidence" you have supporting the suggestion that a "criminal mastermind" is forcing the roma to beg? Is this the same source that told you about the fecal matter in the water in the gallery??? I can't help but think you just like causing a bit of drama & controvercy! i.e stirring up s**t! |

It was in the Sunday Times recently about the Roma being forced to beg by criminal overlords.
I'll see if I can dig out the link.
I can't say I would be happy if the Roma were to move in next door to me but I would also be unhappy if a junkie or dole artist or hippies moved in next door.
But I wouldn't expect the entire village to come out in my support.
I genuinely don't believe that there are substantial earnings, these people certainly do not have the trappings of wealthy people.
Again with not washing themselves, do they choose? If they had a shower; would they use it?
And I think every child should have an education. |

What about having some form of evening in the church hall. A social event. Invite the Roma along. Get to know them. Find out what their agenda is.
I know it sounds a bit Father Ted, but could it work? |

Terrontress,
I think your Church Hall suggestion shows you're very sincere in your views, but I think perhaps a bit naive.
If in some parallel universe such a meeting was arranged, I'd be first there.
If they could speak english, I'd be very interested in hearing their point of view.

Well at least nobody could accuse the people of Donabate of not having tried anything if that happened.
I'd love to hear of people from the Village going up and bringing them clothes they no longer need, books or board games for the kids. A few bottles of water.
I'm just tired of all the negativity. Whether they are smelly, illegal, thieving; you can be sure they have a much worse life than the lot of us and I think something should be done at a community level to welcome them in. Show them we are not a bunch of isolationists.
Go out to their home and if they are living in squalor, help them contact the relevant authorities.
And if it is thrown back in our faces then we can hold our heads high and say that we tried to do our bit and all are welcome in Donabate.
But it needs to be done within the existing frameworks in the village. No point in one person heading round on their own with a six pack of evian. |

Why do you assume they need water and clothes from us?

Actually, forget I asked.
I'm gonna duck out of the conversation as I'm biased after experiences while hitchhiking around Europe.
There seems to be a lot of work going in the big field along the Hearse road. Perhaps those fine fella could be given some work up there.

| Completely unrelated query vlad as i refuse to even entertain terrontress anymore, but what are they doing in the field on the Hearse Rd? I've seen them the last couple of weeks and am curious as to what they're doing. |

Perhaps start a quick thread to ask the same question Cazza, cos I'm not sure.
Looks like Spring Onion (Scallions) pulling to me.
I think Terrontress means well, it's just that the topic always gets warped.
High minded ideals always sound great but they don't always pay the rent. |

Terrontress while I still believe your earlier comparisons were incorrect, and ill advised , it is obvious from your latest posts that you are a sincere person, but in my opinion misguided .
You are right there have been two comprehensive articles in the Sunday Times for the last two Sundays .The first dealing with begging rings and the people who control them .The most recent article, last Sundays entitled Romanian thieves roam wild in Dublin, is one you should read .
It goes on to say the Gardai are struggling to cope with professional gangs of Romanian thieves .The level of theft being carried out is such that Gardai have described it as an epidemic .Gardai have admitted that much of their time is taken up following these gangs around .Groups have been arrested 3-4 times in 1 day .Gangmembers have been described as having no regard for the law .
Now I for one would like the money I am giving over as a taxpayer spent controlling our own problems in say Limerick,or increasing the number of checkpoints on the roads to increase road safety through additional funding for the traffic corps.
Any visitor to this country who has no regard for the law of this land, chosen by your choice and mine of the manifestos of Political parties , and enacted by the Dail in legislation should be deported overnight following their first conviction in a country where they are a guest.
