It was interesting to read about the archaeological find in Donabate a stone disc 5 meters in diameter and a meter in depth with charcoal pits dotted around it. It will be very interesting to see what significance this find might have for the area.
Although the find seems to be holding up the completion of the road widening, I would like to see FCC taking time excavating it, and if there is a historical significance attached to this find it would be nice to see it relocated in the area and displayed as a monument similar to the anchor of the Tayleur in portrane

| it was found under an old tarmac mound out front of super-value. We need to start a campaign to save the mound urgently as they are out there now trying to bulldoze it. |

5 meters diameter by 1 meter thick??????
Holy Moly, its huge.
Could be a wheel from Fion MacCumhall's chariot?
I see coffee shops,
Theme park with rollercoaster rides "The Wheel Of Death",
I see Teeshirts "Wheel me to Smyths for a pint...",
souvenirs, hotels, multistory carpark
Life will never be the same again....... |

My reading of it was that is was a circular stone feature 1 meter thick and 5 meters across like the base of a round tower i assume. Not a single stone.

Johnny, is it possible that this "find" is a disgarded prop from the Father Ted episode which was filmed in Portrane.
I agree that it would be great to have it preserved as a feature of our locality particularily as that other feature "The Mound in the ground" has now been somewhat reduced in stature, a replacement feature wouldn't go amiss ......... |
