Anybody tell me what the story is with that fancy house in Donabate you see when on the Malahide side of the estuary?

It looks like an old building for an English squire.

I think it's Stephen Rea's house (the actor), it's beautiful - I think it's called New-town/port House(or something - I spotted the name on a map of the area before but I cant remember now)

And there I was thinking I was mad when I thought I saw Stephen Rae in the chipper a few months ago :-) Must be one of Donabate's best kept secrets

It looks like Stephen rejected plans for the new stadium.

Seafield House is the large old pile with the tower and a large green pasture sweeping down to the estuary. Stephen Rea's house is approx 500m to the left (if you are looking from Malahide RFC) adjacent to 'the point'.

Seafield was build during the late 18th century and lived in by the Hely-Hutchinson family until approx 1940's The H-H family also owned Lissenhall which is further towards Swords. It was then lived in by Robert and Sheila Goff and I dont know who lives in it now.

Hi All,

I came accross this thread while trying to find the History to Seafield House. Although I'm not from Donabate I had to sign up to tell the OP what I know. I dont know specifically which house the OP is talking about but.. here we go.. Seafield House is owned by the Cronin family. Was in there today and all I can say is WOW!!! Kilcrea house is owned by the Keeling family, local famers and owners of half of Donabate (most notably Keelings pub.) Stephen Rea's house is called Newport house (although his neighbours, the whelans, house is also called newport house) Would love to know more about Seafield house if anyone can shed any light please let me know!!!

Cheers,

A new archive has just opened at Clonmel House in Swords which houses all details of Seafield House, Lissenhall and Newport House. There are old velum deeds, contracts, plans etc etc. Could be well worth you making a visit. The archivist is called Colm McQuinn and can be got via the County Council offices. There are masses of old photos and glass plate photos of Seafield during the time my great grand parents lived there - the Hely-Hutchinson family. Good Luck!
