Do you not think that George should have known what Irish politics was like? It doesn't say much for his work as a journalist that he didn't know what he was getting himself into.

This George fiasco hasn't done anything positivre for anyone here or their families. Unless you enjoy throwing muck at FG.

More money on another by election now that could have gone to building a school.

These were exceptional circumstances. The country was going down the toilet. He hoped that the party in opposition would offer a true alternative to those who got us in the mess. He was wrong. I commend him for trying to help. I would rather see my tax being spent on a punt like this than on more of the same waste and wasters. If Kenny goes between now and 2012 George Lee will have had a hand in it. Money well spent. As I am voting for the FG rats, I would rather have a higher calibre leader and a new crop of TDs in place. Probably more naivity

He wanted to tell that alternative party what to do. But no-one even knows what George thinks should be done.

All he's come out with the usual back bencher rhetoric. The situation is absurd.

George could have left FG and stayed honourable to his word working as an independent. At least that would save the tax payer another by-election.

By all soundings he was going to on the FG front bench this summer but that wasn't good enough for him,

The bloke is a joke and they fact people respect him for being a joke shows that's all we are.

To be fair to George Lee,his reputation was made due to his honest and forthright analysis of the boom bust cycle that was developing in front of his eyes.He became know as the prophet of doom on RTE ,at the same time that the financial genius Ahern was telling all the naysayers to kill themselves.

My one critique of Lee is the fact that he did not nail down a major position, when Kenny came a calling, and is not now an independant.Be under no illusion the biggest loser here is Kenny, his recent interviews have been nothing short of scary e.g his rictus smile on the late late .

Jim Glennon was right on the front line last night with his comparison of Kenny with Eddie O'Sullivan and Declan Kidney ,he has done a good job reorganising the party but cant take it any further .Kenny is a dead man walking, and is now and has been for the last year the biggest obstacle to getting rid of the worst government in the history of this state .

So everyone in the Dail is a fool except Lee...! Having good ideas is useless if you haven't got the talent or skills to influence and implement them. Trouble is we don't even what Lee's ideas are. As for skills I think we can discount diplomacy, patience and loyalty. There are many in the D£il and Seanad who box above their weight quite successfully, Lowry, Boyle et al.It just takes a little acumen. It will be difficult for Lee to redeem himself after this debacle. I wonder is he eyeing up Charlie Birds job?
