Donabate Portrane Community Council
Further to our public meeting last October 19th 2009 a contractor was appointed in December 2009 to build the permanent structure of the Donabate Community College.
A Planning application was due to be lodged with Fingal County Council in January 2010 but has been delayed due to what has been described as technical difficulties.
A meeting of the stakeholders of the secondary school took place in the community centre last Wednesday the 3rd March 2010 to finalise details of the planning application.
The Community Council has continually raised concerns regarding the on going delays with this project.
These concerns were outlined at a board of management of the school on Wednesday March 3rd 2010.
The Donabate Portrane Community Council was informed today, 5th March 2010 by Karl Fitzmaurice, Buildings Officer of County Dublin VEC that a planning application for the secondary school permanent building will be lodged this coming week to Fingal County Council. Although some delays had occurred Mr Fitzmaurice assured the community that this planning application would be lodged no later than next Friday, 12th March 2010.
Mr Fitzmaurice also confirmed that the 1000 pupil permanent building of school will be ready for occupation in September 2011.
The Community council will continue to monitor the events of this project and will keep you informed.
This project was initiated by the Community Council five years ago and sanctioned by the Minister for Education over 2 years ago.
We are also pleased to inform you that of a 16 class room permanent building for Donabate / Portrane Educate Together National School. Construction for both projects will commence later this year.

| That's great news, although I'll only believe it when the planning application is actually lodged, I'll check next weeks planning list. Thanks for the update. |

Donabate Community College - Update
The Donabate Portrane Community Council has been informed by Karl Fitzmaurice, Buildings Officer of County Dublin VEC that a planning application has been lodged with Fingal County Council today, 12th March 2010 to build the permanent structure for Donabate Community College.
The planning process will take 12 weeks and presuming the planning process is successful, building will commence in early June 2010. We have also been reassured that this building will open in September 2011.
Chairperson of the Educational sub Committee David Moore said he was delighted with this event. Many people over several years have struggled to get to this day.
This is a huge win for the community.
Meanwhile the permanent building of Educate Together Primary school is at the tendering stage and construction is due to commence later this year.

| Congrats to all involved in pushing for this over the years. I know it's not there yet but one step closer is always good. |

From what I can gather, the date for the commencement of the building project has been pushed further and further. It wasn't that long ago that we were being reassured that building would begin in spring 2010, yet here we are being told that the planning has only been lodged. Forgive my scepticism
but I'll believe it when I see it. |

While I'm delighted that there will someday be a permanent building, I'd like to point out that my child has been in the school since the year it opened.
She will leave DPETNS with amazing memories of a wonder primary school experience.
Unfortunately, it never included a patch of grass or a building that could maintain a reasonable ambient temperature.
Having said that, I would not in a million years trade her experience for that of another school. I am only delighted for those coming up behind her that they get to have it all! |

Sorry!
Just realised this is about the secondary school and not the Educate Together...
Fingers crossed that the building happens before those leaving primary this year are doing their leaving cert exams!! |
