Banana Republic
There needs to be a major reform of our system of representation. In my opinion we have too many elected TDs, with only a small few performing any worthwhile function. We have family dynasties, Lowry/Healy Rae type self interest politics and sheer incompetent never mind embarrassingly poor communicators as leaders. The herd is too big and it is too easy to hide and coast along until election time. The biggest reform of the public sector must start with the body politic. Options must be presented to the nation and decided through referendum.

Just thought I'ed follow up on my original post, in that I have now come across a number of new groups that are looking to organise new political parties as alternatives to the shower we have both in government and opposition at the moment.

There seems to be more coming up all the time. There is no doubt there is sizable number of people looking for a new vision of Ireland. The thing to do is to look at the policies of these groups, see if you agree with any of them and as per of the the other posters here said, get involved.
