While I agree it must be hard for residents at times. Believe me the Staff at Grove Lodge go out of their way to try and help these kids. They are not all scumbags but they are all vulnerable kids, who are targeted by professional scumbags who know that they can get them to do anything they want them to. Some of these kids actually come from good homes, with good education and because they have other issues have been targeted by these scumbags who have taken them into a world that seems exciting and have alienated them from their families and friends.
If anyone is to blame its the HSE and their lack of care for older teenagers. If a child goes into care at the age of 17 they will get no back up from the state and if a parent doesn't know what to do, you can say goodbye to that child ever turning out right.
What is needed is some kind of way to target the scumbags that are using these kids and get them off the streets. The law has no way of stopping this from happening. These guys know where all the hostels are and go after these kids with all sorts of promises of adventure, money and get them hooked on drugs. Do something about these guys and less vunerable kids will die. |

| HSE should be allowed to focus on caring for sick people. Care of dysfunctional social groups should come under the aegis of the Social and Justice Departments. |

| Wow - with the social experts right here in the locality it's amazing the HSE doesn't sponsor the Forum for childcare tips! The reality is that there will always be social problems & being intolerant to them is just avoidant & ignorant. Some of the posts here show a disgraceful lack of empathy & as another poster commented hopefully you or your family never need support, empathy or a helping hand!! |

| The proposal to place the issues with the appropriate departments is not intolerant or ignorant but a genuine realisation that the HSE is supposed to deal with everything from neurosurgery to rats in your back garden to delinquents. It cannot deliver such a broad range of services under the guise of 'Health'. The issues ought to be tackled however I feel other departments are better equipped and need to share the burden. |
