Whats the route. If Swords is the likely terminus then I don't really see the benefit for the people of Donabate. It takes two buses now and will still take two.

Also if it was a viable route would Dublin Bus not already have it in place.

Hi, unfortunately its 3 buses from Portrane, namely Portrane to Swords, Swords to Santry and Santry to Beaumont, and the same for the way back.

I am always amazed at the reasoning of non commercial viability given by some.

Ok we are in a recession but the facts are that most public trannsport services here ran at a loss pre boom when passenger numbers were much higher. Also international experience shows that most public transport projects in other countries do not break even.

Public transport is a public good and non profitability should not be a reason to curtail new routes where population has grown. There are other social and wider benefits that need to be measured in assessing whether a route should go ahead?

Why do small villages all around the shop have bus services operating with 5-10 passengers - they are heavily subsidised - therefore we should be entitled to the same....

i'd prefer to see a bus from portrane to town, rather than from portrane to beaumont, which seems fairly random (why not portrane to james's or the mater for that point) . I was getting treatment in beaumont and I didn't find the journey too bad - i got the train to clontarf road and then the 20b or 27b.

We do have a bus between town and Portrane. It's called the 33D and not enough people are using it.

I think we need to improve numbers on this first before we go looking for more buses heading elsewhere.

no we have a limited number of buses that travel between town and portrane in the rush hours. this isn't any use if you're trying to go during the day or the weekend.

What we need is a bus from Swords direct to Beaumont, then all you would have to do is get a bus to Swords, which wouldn't be as bad, ie 2 buses apart from 3. Not ideal but much better.

I would like a bus that goes from Donabate to Castleknock because my girlfriend lives there and I hate driving over there...

Also one from Donabate to the beach would be nice as well. And one from Donabate to the airport.

This is the point I am making, we can't fill peak buses when people called for them (after the Malahide collapsed and was reinstated), so what hope have we of filling off peak ones? Dublin Bus were quite upfront when asked to provide more buses; they said they would if the demand was there. And clearly there isn't to the point where we are lucky that we still have one 33D each way.

Also is the train off-peak not a suitable alternative to the bus when heading to town?
