Robbery at Donabate Graveyard
Hi all,

Just want to highlight that I was visiting Donabate graveyard 10th July Saturday evening 7.30pm and walked by an English reg silver Seat Family car in the graveyeard, who proceeded to then drive out.

5 mins later after we went to our car outside the graveyard, we found that the window was smashed in, and my travel bag which contained personal belongings, passport, mobile phone, house keys, purse, baby photos, and other stuff... had been robbed. They also slashed the tyre so we couldn't drive after them.

I was very foolish to leave my travel bag in the car, but was eager to visit my baby's grave after being out of the country for a week and it didn't cross my mind that it could be taken.

I called my phone and the thieves actually answered, it was a woman with an english accent, I pleaded with her as I had my baby's photos in the bag, who has recently passed away. She said she was sorry, and they just took the money and threw my bag on the dual carriage way heading to Dublin....we went looking for it, but couldn't find it. I tried calling again all evening and the phone was turned off.

It's all been reported to the Gardai. It has been a very hard lesson, and I can't believe somebody would do this at a graveyard, preying on vulnerable people..... So please just be careful out there, there are nasty people waiting to catch people out.

I am so sorry to firstly hear of your initial loss, and secondly, to hear of the theft.

Would you by chance recall part of the English Reg.

Some tracing could be carried out, especially if the vehicle has recently travelled over.
Garda should be able to check on ANY road side CCTV on the date and time after the incident.

There MUST be a way to catch such callous theives.

If I hear or see anything, I will be sure to advise.
As an Englishman, I am disgusted to hear that anyone would do that, let alone an English person.

My heart goes out to you.

So sorry SB on yuour bereavement and your horrible experience on Saturday.
Unfortunately, this is a fairly regular occurance at Donabate Graveyard.
Some of our friends (mostly women) have had handbags and other belongings taken from their cars.
Most people who visit Graveyards sre there to visit their loved ones and (unfortunately) assume others are there to do the same.
So I suggest the 99.9% of us who are there for the right reasons try to 'spot' the 'bad ones'.
Hope your bag will be found and you will at least get your precious 'photos back.

That is disgusting. Wish there something we could do to help. Absolute scumbags. All we can do is keep an eye out for the car. Will probably be back at some stage.

What a disgusting crime! I can only sympatise with your loss and I know this has happened a few times down there the last bag was found just outside the village by a farm just ater the garage you might call in to the family and ask them if you can check their land.

I have heard of this also happening down in the carpark in Towerbay the car used there was also a people carrier and there was young kids in it they seemed to have been used a decoys for the robbery that happened there.

When all else fails I always pray to St Anthony ...just a thought

" we reap what what sow" this woman will remember you when she reaps her reward for her wicked cruel deed

SB, did you notice if the silver Seat had accident damage at the front. I'm wondering if it's the same car that was involved in other incidents a few weeks ago. That had fake, apparently, Northern Ireland number plates on and was taken away by the Gardai. I understand the 'driver' wasn't charged, but the car may have been returned.

Hi all,
Thank you for your kind messages and useful tips.

I feel alot calmer today, I am still looking for the bag, but no luck yet. If anybody does come across a Green/Black Benneton bag please let me know.I'd really appreciate it.

I was with the Gardai and they are following a lead from a similar car spotted in Coolock and the City centre with UK plates, and they will be in touch with me. It was a Silver Seat Alhambra in case you see it in the village. They also took our car for a forensic test and they may get finger prints...who knows.

I want to get in touch with Fingal CC to request if they could display a public sign etc outside the graveyard, it might help others before they leave belongings in their car. I can't get through on the phone but will keep trying.

I have been trying to spread the word and told visitors when I see them at the graveyard to be careful.

All I can say is that these thieves are the absolute lowest of the low, and I am a firm believe in Karma...

Thanks all,
Regards SB.

Hi SB,
It might be a good idea to pass the info on to the Parish Priest and he could tell people at mass, or people he may know who also visit the graveyard.
Deepest sympathies once again and glad you're feeling a bit better.
