Illegal parking
Hi all. I've been reading this forum for a while but never registered. Basically I have a major problem with the lazy ignorant people who park on the road at the entrance to fairways. I personally live around this area and am driven insane trying to get in or out with parked cars blocking access.

It is amazingly lazy considering there is a car park behind supervalu and behind the chemist too. I noticed the gardai had placed cones down there for a week or two but as soon as they were removed the cars start to appear again.

Surely the co co can put double yellow lines there or something.

Oh, and it's also quite interesting to hear people complain about teenagers loitering around this area yet ignoring the rude and ignorant adults who do as they like because it saves them having to park 10 metres from the door to the shop.

I think you are right about the yellow lines. Pay and display could also provide a little income for the CoCo. Some cars appear to have squatters rights at this stage (navy Audi A6 on pavement outside Church, a few at the Bunch of Grapes etc). I imagine many are trying to save on parking fees in the station car park

Please note that Squatter's rights belong exclusively to Squatter.

I live in this area as well and some of the parking beggars belief. Sometimes people park close to the corner on both sides of the road leaving only a gap that only one car can pass through. I reckon it's just down to plain lazyness on the part of the drivers. They can't be bothered to walk a few yards extra. I remember when the plans were submitted for the supervalu, I wrote to the council saying that although I didn't object to the development, I felt that they should have some parking to the front as people would park there anyway. My suggestion wasn't taken on board. I genuinely believe that if the supervalu doors were wide enough, people would drive in and park inside. There's a similar situation down at the beach where a car park was built and yellow lines put down beside the Waterside but still people park on the yellow lines rather than walk the few yards from the car park.

What about the loonies who park on the footpath outside the school on the Portrane road ? Actually it's not parking, it's abandoning the SUV (mostly) while they collect their little overweight darlings and then drive the 500 metres home ! I have had to walk on the road to get past them, dread to think of someone having to manoeuvre a buggy with kids around them.

I looked into this last year about double yellow lines for Fairways.

I spoke with the roads department in Fingal Co. Co. and they gave me a copy of their Garda report. The Gardai have approved the entrance for double yellow lines since Spring 2009. According to FCC it is too expensive to send a crew out exclusively to put the lines in Fairways. They have to include Fairways in a works scheme of a few days. In other words, if they have a few road jobs to do over a day or two, they'll send a crew to Fairways. We're still waiting for that to happen.

That's the story as I know it.

Thanks for all your replies. At least I know Im not the only one driven mad by this.

Ive actually had words with idiots sitting in their cars as Im trying to get past (as another car turns in off the main road also!) and they dont seem to care whatsoever so I suppose its just a case of waiting until the job becomes financially viable for the council. Unless of course someone thinks there is a better idea.

I am willing to paint the things myself if required. I did higher level art in the leaving cert you know.

I love a good moan.

My pet hate is chancers using the Parent & Child spaces.

I know it's not strictly illegal, but it get's my goat. I'm pretty anal about road traffic regulations anyway.

Nothing would please me more than an umarked car nabbing all the mobile phone chatters merrily passing me by on the Hearse road.

.. hope lost when I saw a ban garda passing me doing exactly that.

You've hit the nail on the head Vlad with people parking in the parent-child spot in supervalu, and indeed the handicapped spot beside them.
The post office is another spot where people take the micky. Instead of parking opposite in the Smiths carpark, they pull right up onto the path and force people out onto the road to get passed. A while back I couldn't get past with my daughter in her buggy. The owner of the blue ford focus, (a most charming blonde late 30's female, you know the type, is never wrong, sees herself as always the victim, has to have the last word) eventually came out of the shop. I said to her she was blocking the path, to which I got a filthy look. She got into her car, and then rolled down the window and started talking to a friend of hers who was passing by. By the time she eventually pulled off, there were 3 of us waiting with children buggies to get past. Knacker.

She probably called her friend on the phone later to congratulate herself on being the strong independent type who doesn't get told what to do.
