| Football on public greens |

| I can actually see both sides. My son and his pals spend all day playing football on our green, great to see, no problems. However there have been occasions where a group of teens arrived to play football and have forced the smaller ones off the green. The teens don't live here but just decide it's a good place to play. While I have never asked them to leave, I do think they should consider the kids living there before they take over. |

Yeah and I think Fingal CC should consider what little green areas we have before turning them into Meadows and not give us some cr*p pretending its not cost cutting.

| Maybe I am missing something but I can understand why small kids would want to play on the green areas in estates but for teenagers and older kids, why would you want to when we have something like Newbridge a five minute walk away? I would of killed for that sort of area to play football in when I was younger. |

If there's 5 ot 6 of yis, you're not gonna go all the way to Newbridge if you're just after a quick knock-about of a summer's evening..
I remember when I was growing up we had huge playing fields, but it was fun just to knock the ball about on the local green .. jumpers for goal posts, that kind of thing.

I'd agree with Vlad. When there's only 4 o5 5 of you are justing kicking it about, you are not going to go all the way up to Newbridge.
I see no point in having a green only to watch the grass grow. Or having to go to hassel to get any sort of exercise.
And shame on Fingal losers council for not having properly designed greens for this kind of thing.
Hope the cars you bought with brown envelopes are belted with several footballs. You probably want a kid who could play for Ireland be dancing around the meadow.

Eh? Why wouldn't you walk ALL the way up to Newbridge from the green outside Macaris for example if there were five or six of you. You can easily put jumpers down there, make as much noise as you want, avoid annoyed adults etc etc
How much green space do you want Fingal County Council to provide? We are spoilt in this community with the open spaces we have. We just don't use them. |

I still think it's over the top for people to call the guards over kids having a knock about.
A bit bah-humbug.

Old Man, to get from Macari's to Newbridge Football pitches is 15 minutes there and 15 minutes back.
That means 30 minutes less playing Football.
Secondly, the pitch is a huge open space which means you can spend a lot of time getting the ball when someone over hits it. what you want is your goal area near a barrier or bunch of trees or something.
The green area outside Macaris is easily big enough for a kick about and shouldn't annoy anyone and we all know on this forum I'm very easily annoyed.
We don't have that many green areas, there are several new estates with unusable green areas because the clowns put the trees in the centre instead of the side or else the clowns made sure the pitch was sloped at a 30 degree angle or the clowns have turnt it into a meadow.

15 minutes stroll! The kids will need a rest after that.
Look, I have no problem with kids playing football on Green areas (and calling the Guards is ridiculous) but the days where green areas in estates were only used by innocent kids playing a game of football are long gone. I am not saying that there aren't kids that don't simply want to play football but they also attract every sort of scanger looking for somewhere to hang around.
I don't want to see concrete jungle estates but I don't blame the Council for that because people have shown that they are incapable of respecting the facilities given to them. That 20 year old who died in Swords last week was tragic but himself and his friends were not using the lovely Green area provided by the Council for football. I am familiar with that area and it is disgusting what they turned it into. People were afraid to walk through it. The same happens in Donabate.
I feel sorry for the genuine kids out there like the person who originally posted and who simply want a kick about but I can understand peoples wishes that the areas in which they live don't become a magnet for every kid in the area just because they have a patch of grass. |
