The less facilities there are for kids the higher the chance they get up to no good. The better the facilities the less the chance.
If lads have a bit of GAA / Football / Rugby / Snooker / Boxing / whatever to focus on, something which challenges them and gives them an opportunity to express themselves - it uses up their energy.
Obviously there's the issue of parents but parents can only do so much. |

Of course. But there are soccer, GAA, Basketball, golf, Hockey, Badminton and Taekwondo clubs in the area.
We could always do with more facilities (the new Astro turf pitch will be very welcome) but we are not that badly off despite what people say. Using grass areas in estates is not the answer. Like I say, I would like young children to have access to these areas. Facilities should be in place for older kids.
If the kids in the area have a specific request for an activity or a facility, lets hear about it and see what we can do as a community.

As well as the sports clubs listed earlier there's also the well-supported sheebeen for underaged skangers, feral scumbags and their sluts, located in the back meadow of Newbridge Demesne.
Membership of the Donabate Drongo Drinking Club is free and the sole entry requirements appear to be: a hoodie, a sullen visage, a vacant expression and (optional) a flabby, skimpily clad tartlet.
I understand that any member who is found taking home their empty tins or other litter will be summarily dismissed from the club. After all, what's the point in having a wonderful resource like Newbridge Demesne if it cannot be defiled with litter by recalcitrant youth?

Old Man, I see where you are coming from but you have to remember kids, teenagers don't work in a very structured way. They like a bit of adventure and a bit of variety.
If you want to be good at football you have to practise things like solo's for ages and ages and ages until you have a decent touch of both your feet. Things like this should be done in the local green area. Also things like crossing the ball in and practising headers and volleys are better suited to a smaller area.
Personally, I'd welcome lads playing Football in any park as long as they respect the locals. It brings a bit of life to the place. And we live in the suburbs not in the city so we have a right to expect open playing areas that can be used by all.
If we had a culture that was more exercise based I don't think we see as many drink and drug related problems.

| What facilities/clubs must a community have before it can expect people to put rubbish into a bin? I feel sorry for Nemanja and the vast majority of kids in Donabate who are all decent souls. They end up tarnished with the same brush. Its the small but highly visible few who are holding the village to ransom. By all means call the guards because you will get no-where with the parents. Reading some of the contributions here it is clear that there is more to this than residents supposedly objecting to innocent football. |

yep it is the very small few who are utter scangers. we know who a lot of these kids are. we also know the parents and what amazes me is that we see the kids openly drinking etc, but the parents dont. Or more likely they know but dont want to know.
Lazy lazy parenting. I actually feel sorry for those kids cos acting the scumbag now will define their lives and ensure they will have many years of difficulty.
Of course when you're a teenager you dont realise this and well really dont care. Such a pity |

| Harry, I don't know what is worse. That kids would football in a graveyard or there are residents capable of calling the guards in the Graveyard! Spooky... |

| Been scrolling through old posts.I can see plenty of folk hanging around on a regular basis but football when played properly offends nobody. However the area between the Spires and the Village is no suitable. There are two public footpaths here and folk feel intimidated by large groups shouting loudly. Also my own car was damaged (?500) due to someone kicking a football very high and it landing in my bonnet.Off course everyone ran off. Also I saw an elderly lady being hit on the back of the head by a ball whilst on her way to evening mass. She had only emerged from hospital after a 6 week stay! Sport should be encouraged in certain areas and ruled out of order in others ! |
