| Hi, Just reading the story of that poor child that was killed last night and I read that she popped out at twelve on the night she was killed.I was only talking to a friend of mine the other day about the amount of 13 and 14 year olds that I have seen out between 11 and 12 at night when I've been coming from work. These are mostly boys that are from our neighbourhood.I think this is far too late for these children to be out.I know some people will say its the summer holidays and stuff but I really think its too late to be hanging around corners. These lads are only 13 and 14 because they are in the same school as my daughter.I would love to hear your opinion on this. |

Agree with you, i've also seen young teens around, well they may be fine with their group of friends but you just don't know who is watching them |

How tragic, she was only 12 years of age. rip.
Why did her parents allow her out at 12am? There are no excuses. Why didn't they protect her. It was their job in life to protect their baby and they failed. They should have know her ever move and who her friends were and what they got up to as a group. She was 12 years of age, a child, not 21.
Jesus Christ, she should have been in bed like other normal 12 year old little girls. It's so sad.
And four more teenagers killed during the week in the horrfic car crash in Kerry. Where were those parents. Five teenagers out all night at a party, did there parents know were they where.
I hope I don't come across as being to harsh, but as a parent I find it unbeliveable that parents could allow their precious/beautiful children out of their sight.

Completely agree with you. Some parents seem to go for the 'anything for an easy life' philosophy.
Not referring to the particular cases you mention but some parents really don't have a clue.
I'm all in favour of penalties for parents who allow their kids to be disruptive |

| I have 2 grown up children and as a strict and loving parent I am happy and lucky they have got their own lives now and doing very well. I cant agree with blaming the parents. Most parents do their best and its tough. I know. My daughter only told me recently when I thought that they were tucked in bed that she used to climb out the window to be with her friends. I know its harder these days been a parent with teenagers. |

I disagree with you Sparkle. Most parents do indeed do their best and that's fine once they are making the effort. However consistently allowing kids out late until a ridiculous hour is certainly not fine, and I for one would never allow my children to do this. I'm sure many responsible parents would agree with me. There was a huge gang hanging around our village last night when I went through it before 11pm. Does anyone else think that this is unacceptable?
In my book, coming in at twelve are any equally unreasonable hour would not be tolerated, nor would the notion that after doing this, they could slip out again for another few minutes. |

| My kids wouldn't dream of climbing out the window to sneak out. It just wouldn't happen. Same reason I never did that to my parents. Respect comes into it. A lot of parents don't do their best though, I've seen it first hand and I strongly believe parents should be held responsible. |

If even half of what I read in the papers is true about this child then her parents should be charged with neglect.
She had been in town earlier and home at midnight to be allowed out again and known to the police for underage drinking that is not right for any child.
The sad thing is it could be a half dozen kids from any area that this could happen to.
As for kids getting out windows I have known kids that do/done that people I know even got grills on the window to keep their child in and a very modern alarm system anyone who thinks not my child ahould be aware that, again sadly that sentiment can bite you in the ass
With school back now maybe the latenight hangouts will stop.
I've heard that there was a fight orgainsed for lastnight between local kids and kids from Swords they were to meet at the train bridge anyone esle know about this? scarey stuff if its true.

shalamar my comment was'nt directed at you as a slap on the hand or a put down for your beliefs on your children.
I know 99% that my kids would never do it but theres always a chance they might because of peer pressure etc.
I have learned over the years that kids can do total out of charater stuff for lots of reasons. |

I agree with you snapper there are definitely some kids that would try it. The alarm would go off in my house though if the kids attempted it :)
We are very open with our kids and are lucky that they feel they can come to us with any problems they have and they are open enough to tell us when other kids are doing what they consider to be wrong. Hopefully that will continue.
But I see neighbours who let their kids (aged 3) wander outside the house alone and aren't concerned where they are. "ah sure he can't be far". That's what annoys me the most. |
