Children out late
A child of 12 should be in Bed even during the summer holidays a good half hour before 12midnight ,period. It is baffling that parents would allow a girl to nip out for 5minutes as reported in the newspaper at midnight.

I've often wondered if whether part of the reason kids are allowed roam unsupervised may be due to both their parents working. A good few of the village gang seem to feed themselves out of Macaris and the Sweet Shop more regularly than normal kids who are fed at home. There are even a few who are dropped off by their parents early in the day from as far afield as Swords to be collected as late as 10pm after a day wandering the village. Most of the kids are lovely, but for all the education, support and nurturing, very few of them know how to use a bin. As for talking to the parents, you might as well nail jelly to a tree

Lambay its ironic that you say this my daughter told me that one of the lads that I've seen over the last few weeks has both his parents working and not from 9 to 5 either. Now before people go off on one I know its a matter of both parents having to work these days but if thats the case they should have someone keeping an eye on their children. This lad is up to no good and its only a matter of time before he gets into serious trouble.I do blame the parents they should be held responsible for their children yes it is hard bringing up children and yes we have all made mistakes myself included but at the end of the day I brought my children into this world and it is my job to bring them up properly regardless of how hard hard it gets.

working late/all hours to make ends meet is a feeble excuse for a parent to make. To me it smacks of lazy parenting. We both work in our household however our kids are never left alone after school. We make sure of that.

I see it first hand every day. I too know of one child who's parents both work and he is left to fend for himself after school. He is a troublemaker and unless its nipped in the bud now he will graduate to the school of mountjoy in the not too distant future.

taking the example of the recent child murder last weekend. Ok I very rarely believe newspaper reports but if what they say is true about her being allowed out at midnight, then social services need to be sitting down with her parents very soon to discuss the welfare of their other child/children.

Eating out of Macari's and the Sweet Shop. No recession there then. Sammy ain't cheap! With the schools reopening perhaps we'll see less of this.
